How we work

Every nook story begins with the primary reporting. We read the full source material, then write an original, self-contained piece in our own words, with our own analysis — and we cite and link every outlet we drew from, on the story itself. We synthesise; we never republish, and we never scrape.

Our newsroom is AI-assisted and human-governed. Software helps us watch hundreds of African and global sources around the clock and prepare first drafts from the underlying reporting. But no story reaches this site automatically: a human editor reviews, checks and approves every published piece — and is accountable for it. We hold our drafts to the standard of a veteran desk: specific figures, named players, and real analysis, or it doesn't run. You can read the full rules on our Editorial Standards page.

nook is independently owned and editorially independent. We are funded by our readers and, in time, by advertising and partnerships that are always clearly labelled and never allowed to shape coverage. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly.
